bali | part 3

For the last leg of our trip we decided to return to Seminyak and boy did we get lucky when we got upgraded to a 2 bedroom pool villa at the lovely Mutiara Resort. The sun was out every day and every day was spent watching naked toddler shenanigans as he ran around all day long, swimming, splashing and getting into all sorts of mischief. What a perfect end to end our holiday!

The hardest part was putting clothes on that cute little butt when we got home. I think its safe to say we are officially Bali converts now! Until next time! x

Our second week we spent in beautiful Ubud in a traditional Balinese villa, located in the lush jungle...seriously! Yes, there were so many steps here and it was a little frustrating for Atti that there wasn't much straight ground to run around on, but we got a wonderful education into the world of spiders, ants, frogs, geckos, butterflies and sorts of other creepy crawlies. Atti would jump out of bed in the morning, open the doors and exclaim "Oh my goodness! It's so boootiful!" And really it was!

We did some day trips to a nearby volcano, a coffee plantation, the beautiful rice terraces and trips into town. We ran down (or stepped and stepped) to the breakfast bar every morning for the delicious banana crepes and for the first time, Atticus started to eat without much fuss. We had massages in the hut by the pool, played the harmonica on our balcony and enjoyed leisurely daily baths in the beautiful outdoor bathroom.

I felt like I didn't take my camera out very much, opting instead to keep my hands free to chase a rogue toddler around the streets of Bali. But as I look back through my photos, I'm amazed by how many pictures I did manage to snap and how hard it was to narrow down my favourites to show you.

Our first week we spent in the beautiful Maya Loka resort with a private pool villa and all the luxuries that go with it. We practised the "thumbs up" fingers (above) daily, and I'm pretty sure he thinks he's got them down packed:) We rode in taxis, visited the cows and chickens in the neighbouring fields, played on the beach and even managed a day trip to the beautiful Tanah Lot Temple.

The wonderful Lauren Merrick has drawn up a sweet little portrait for us. Do you  like it?

"A portrait of Atticus, once a week, every week, in 2013."

The last five days of our holiday we had left open, with the idea that we would decide where we'd like to end it once we get a better feel for the place. We decided to return to Seminyak and booked a room in a hotel the night before. The holiday fairies must have been looking after us though, because we got upgraded to a 2 bedroom private pool villa! Wooohoo!!!

The pool in our very first villa was quite cold and in the shade so we didn't really do much swimming, but this pool was warm and sunny and big. The perfect way to end our holiday! Nothing better than watching a naked toddler run around all day long, splashing about and "swimming like a fish, mama".

Phew, finally I'm caught up and joining in with Jodi and the gang again:)

"A portrait of Atticus, once a week, every week, in 2013."

In Bali, Atticus became really shy. He has never been one of those kids that will go to just anyone anyway, but in Bali he became even more clingy and aware of strangers. The locals there really love kids and everyone was always trying to play with him! He would look at them tentatively, maybe giving them a cheeky smile (as above) and putting his hands to his mouth in shyness, before running back to me and hiding behind my leg.

The above photo was taken at our beautiful Ubud villa.

Feeding Atticus remains a daily struggle. Luckily in Bali there was plenty of fried rice and noodles (which he is willing to try) to keep him going but one new thing to add to his "Likes" list is cheesymite biscuits! I packed a box with me and he got quickly hooked on them, yelling "vegemite and biscuits, mama!"... At first he would only lick the cheesymite off, but towards he end I even convinced him to have some bites of the biscuit too! Every small victory counts in this household!

Here he is enoying a small breather and a vegemite biscuit at Tahah Lot Temple in Bali.

Also, please take note of the crazy humidity curls! I got so used to them in Bali, and now it's a little sad that his hair is back to straight...which has really highlighted the fact that maybe it's time for a first haircut!!
